Malin here, the Global Development gal from Glug HQ. As I’m writing this I’m sitting on a train enroute to Glug Leeds, and as this year is coming to an end I thought this would be the perfect time to jot down some thoughts, reflections and observations I’ve made this year.
I want to start by saying thank you to everyone and all! We’re incredibly lucky to be in such great company of top people who’ve all come together and supported, spoken at, attended, worked on, helped and hosted our global Glug chapters this year. Glug would be nothing without everyone of you, and we owe you all loadsa beers...
This year has been massive for us, not only are we growing as a team, brand and network – we’re also seeing the Glug concept travel wide and far. Calculated from London and the HQ the furthest we’ve taken it so far is all the way Down Under, to Sydney. We’ve also gotten to know some beautiful Berliners, epic Edinburghers (hehe) and cannot wait to meet some Dubai’ers, LA’ers and Taipei’ers in the new year...
A year ago from now we had 7 chapters – today we’ve got 24 chapter registered with some still to be officially announced and launched. On a regular basis we’ve got people reaching out to us wanting to start their own chapters, so do stay tuned as Glug surely will come to a city near you in a near future. I think we can all agree on the fact that next year is going to be a bigger, better and busier year for us all, eh?
Glug runs on a voluntary franchise basis which means that we’ve got epic host teams running all our chapters on a local level – and I really want to give millions of thank you’s and hugs to each and every one of them.
One of the highlights of this year for me, personally, have been the fact that I’ve gotten to know more and more of you, the Gluggers. We’ve had countless conversations, chats, Twitter bants, GIF-off’s and messages going back and forth between us – and it’s been so much fun. I don’t think you realise how vital your opinions, suggestions and ideas are to us – it is one of those invaluable things that I really enjoy with our active community, and definitely something I want to honour, continue and develop in the new year too. We're always all ears!
Speaking from a Glug London perspective we have to highlight the fact that we’ve had an incredible roster of speakers this year – and this is obviously true to all our global chapters, too. All the inspiration, insights and ideas that our speakers have shared to all attendees this year has been invaluable. To look back and see who we’ve had on stage this year is impressive – and we really want to thank each and all of the epic speakers we’ve had.
A final, mahooooooosively big thank you goes out to all of our amazing partners and sponsors across all levels and chapters that’s been supporting us as an organisation this year. Without you it wouldn’t have been possible to expand and push the boundaries of Glug in the quick pace that we’ve been operating on this year. Short and sweet – my deepest respect and biggest thanks to the best people around, it’s been a pleasure to work with you all, and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
So, without sounding too cliché I want to take this opportunity to wish you a happy, merry, amazing, relaxing and utterly awesome holiday season. I’m looking forward to see you, or hear from you, in the new year!
